Wood if You Could
Danny Hess Surfboards
Some people have hazy memories of ocean-side adolescences; others have Jeff Spicoli, Point Break, and Riding Giants. Either camp will appreciate the care and craftsmanship that Danny Hess puts into his line of handmade wooden surfboards. The San Francisco-based surfer cum carpenter’s high-performance boards (made from cork and sustainably harvested wood) look as good propped against the wall as they are on a wave — and make us want to bypass spring and go directly to summer.
Available at Mollusk Surf Shop, 4500 Irving Street, San Francisco; 415-564-630; for more information, go to hesssurfboards.com.
