The Fixer Elixir

Tru2 Organic Gin

It used to be a cure-all sold in pharmacies to treat ailments such as kidney disease, lumbago, gallstones, and gout. Today, it is found as the base of many a fancy cocktail — Gimlets, Negroni, Pimm’s Cup, Tom Collins, etc. Interesting transition, no? So, what’s in the stuff? Well, the medicinal elixir was nothing more than distilled juniper berries. The modern-day variety, take Tru2 Organic Gin for example, updates that recipe by infusing 14 different organic botanicals: fresh lemon zest, lavender, cloves, vanilla, fennel. The result is a crisp, modern twist on the otherwise too-bold-for-some liquor. And, Tru's One Tree per Bottle campaign adds an incentive to drink it all up — to date, 50,052 trees have already been planted in Central America. Could what used to “cure” gallstones, fix global warming too? It's a stretch. But, an idea worth drinking to.
