When Cynthia Foster and Karel Samsom transformed a trio of aging bungalows into airy Venice Beach guesthouses earlier this year, they went green from the ground up. Literally. Each property is chic and inviting, and pulls out all the eco stops — using organic mattresses, solar power, nontoxic cleaners, enery efficient appliances, and vintage furniture (just for starters). With creative, upscale décor (one has a Hemingway theme, another is "candied baroque"), the results are utterly charming (not gimmicky) and make for inviting oases when touching down in LA.
